Each September, children campaign and get voted in to be a member of School Parliament.
Through this approach, children learn about democracy, the Houses of Parliament and how 'Britishness' has formed over the centuries.
All children are able to stand for a ministerial position in the elections at the beginning of each academic year. They are expected to explain why the voters should choose them and to run their own campaign. Parliament meets at least once a half-term.
School Parliament is represented by Y1 - Y6
For 2025–2026

Some of the issues debated by half-term in school parliament:
Half-term 1
1, Views on the Positive Relationships Policy
All children were given a questionnaire regarding behaviour and relationships in the school. The views of every single child were taken into account when the policy was written. We took the opportunity to talk about democracy in classes.
Half-term 2
2, Views on school, teaching and learning
We will be asking our school parliament what they think about various aspects of school. We will collate their ideas and use this as a basis for a staff discussion on how we can improve the school for the children.
