Physical Activity

At Great Wilbraham Primary School we believe Physical Education (PE) is a crucial and fundamental part of the curriculum. We strive to ensure all children participate in a wide range of physical activities both in and out of school. Children at Great Wilbraham thoroughly enjoy developing and performing their physical ability in PE lessons and through competitions and matches.

 We aim to:

  • Promote a healthy lifestyle

  • Encourage a love of physical activity

  • Develop good sportsmanship and leadership skills.

Dance, gymnastics, outside sports and swimming are statutory elements of the Primary Curriculum. All of these forms of physical activity are integral to our Creative Curriculum and are used to develop children’s confidence, competence, character, creativity and co-ordination.

We are delighted to have been awarded the Silver Sport Mark for 2016, which is a wonderful reflection on the amazing practice we have going on here at Great Wilbraham Primary School.

PE lessons

Children at Great Wilbraham take part in at least 2 hours of PE a week and participate in regular competitions. PE lessons are taught by class teachers or Sports coach, Mr McGeorge. As well as twice weekly timetabled PE lessons children can participate in after school clubs, which are lead by Mr McGeorge.

In KS2 the children travel to the local swimming pool and are taught to swim by qualified swimming instructors.

In the Summer Term all children participate in Sports day, where they try to win the coveted House Trophy for their house.

Sports Clubs and Competitions

We have a wide range of sports club at Great Wilbraham for both KS1 and KS2, running after school. Over the course of the year these include multi-skills, football club, kurling, fencing, tennis and cricket.

We compete in many different events throughout the year, including cross country, multi sports, athletics and rugby.

We are proud to say that PE is a popular and enjoyable subject for all children at Great Wilbraham  Primary School.
